Fabio Capello to stick with David Beckham

David Beckham is in line to win his 100th England cap against Switzerland on Feb 6 in what will be coach Fabio Capello's first match in charge.

Capello is not thought to have any problems with Beckham, despite reports that the two fell out while Capello was manager of Real Madrid, and he may even name Beckham captain for the friendly next month.

The rumour that the England midfielder was ostracised by the Italian coach while at Real Madrid are not entirely accurate.

Rather it was president Ramon Calderon, in a fit of pique, furious at having been played by Beckham over contract negotiations, who demanded that he be ditched from the squad.

Capello agreed that having signed a multi-million-dollar deal with LA Galaxy, Beckham's mind may not have been on the job.

He followed orders, but although he may have had few qualms about leaving Beckham out of his side, he also had no hesitation in putting him back in once he realised the mistake.

When the former Manchester United winger proved him wrong in training, Capello returned the Englishman to the team, against the wishes of Calderon.

In fact, Beckham returned and scored the goal that temporarily saved Capello's job and has always stressed his admiration for Capello.

The fact that Capello views Major League Soccer as a joke is irrelevant. He knows Beckham's strengths, he knows the quality that Beckham provides. And Capello will not be the man to deny Beckham his century of caps.
