Beckham hints at retirement plans

David Beckham is open to the prospect of buying into a football club once his playing days come to an end.

Beckham already has a wide-ranging portfolio of business interests outside of his playing career, including a series of coaching schools.

The former England skipper continues to defy his doubters by forcing his way into Fabio Capello’s squad despite plying his week-to-week trade in MLS, but he does admit that approaching retirement has given him food for thought.

“I always like to challenge myself and I always like to have different things to look forward to in life,” said the LA Galaxy midfielder.

“There are things I would like to be a part of and if that means being an owner of a franchise or a club then I would like to.”

Beckham also moved once again to justify his decision to cross the Atlantic, insisting he still faces stiff enough competition to merit a place in the England fold.

“There are teams in this league (MLS) that could give some Premier League teams a good game,” added the former Real Madrid man.

“I’m not saying they’re up there with the top teams but they could definitely compete with some of the teams and give them a hard time.”
